me so tired

i just wanted to commemorate the occasion. for posterity or lunacy or to refer back to when i wonder why i have these perpetual dark rings under my eyes. just now, may 4, 2005, at 2:25 am (indiana time; 3:35 EST), i completed the last page of my last paper for my first year at notre dame. it was my 175th page this semester, 301st this year--easily long enough for a dissertation. these last 70 pages were completed between tuesday of last week (april 26th) and right now. it seems farging inconceivable that i was assigned this much work. i'm actually taking one fewer class than i was last semester.... at this point, i would prefer pats on the back or flowers to large denominations of money...although if you can't think of anything else to send, i guess i'll take the cash. who am i kidding. i've been averaging 4 hours of sleep a day for almost 2 weeks. i've pulled 2 all nighters (not counting tonight because I'll be in bed before 4am). ten years ago, all nighters were fun. now they're hellacious. in the last week i've had 7 pots of coffee and at least 20 pots of tea. my heartrate has probably been up near "windsprint" level for days on end because of all the caffeine. right now sleep sounds better than cash, pats on the back, or large batches of chocolate chip cookies. in fact the only thing better than getting a full night's sleep right now is the knowledge that on monday night i'll be within 10 feet of The Edge as he picks out the first few chords of "Where the streets have no name." and on tuesday morning, i won't have to do jack s*#t because i'll be on summer break. is it worth it, you ask? yeah. it is right now. one week ago i would have answered a resounding hell no. but right now it feels good.

I am so happy for you. maybe the best remedy for you is to watch some mindless entertainment. like the simpsons or play videogames. definetly stay away from the xxx movie, but i heard that hitch-hiker's guide is really good.

also, i bet that you will be going back over the summer for classes, so enjoy it while you can. in the event you want some visitors to come from columbus, let me know. i can round up some troops.

give 1 year old hugs to greta and 30 year old hugs to brooke from me. (if you hugged the baby like a 30 year old it might hurt...
