everyone so quiet b and i got back from l'abri in southboro, mass. this past weekend. man, it was pretty amazing. l'abri is definitely not for everyone, but for those with honest questions--who assume that they don't carry all of the relevant answers--it's a great resource. their library was bigger than our house! i think i learned the most from the other people and the lectures, even though the reading materials were extensive too. so, on with our topics: i don't feel like i have any better handle on the structure of church or whether homegroups work better than large churches. i do think, however, that i learned a ton about the importance of church tradition and an appreciation of history. there seem so many unspoken assumptions about how to interpret the bible and the special revelation of God in an non-denominational church. the unfortunate part is that i think we tend to say that there isn't an influencial "tradition" and that we just refer to to the bible "and only the bible." if non-denominational churches really spelled out their preconceptions and traditions and how they approach scripture and the "normal" christian life, what would they say? what should we say? coldplay rocks!
