why are we so bad about blogging? coldplay rocks my face off. i see this weird connection between U2, Radiohead, Coldplay--three of my favorite bands. they all have a sort of melancholic sound. sure, there's really upbeat happy stuff too, but mostly they look at the world in sort of an Ecclesiastes sort of way...meaning they see the crap and then see how things should be and ask the question, "why should it be like this?" the obvious difference is that Bono is directing his questions to the one who can do something about it whereas Thom Yorke (radiohead) and coldplay just sort of shout their loneliness, etc. out into space. so i just read this book called "Between Heaven and Hell" written by Peter Kreeft who is a professor at Boston College. The book is a fictional conversation between C. S. Lewis, John F. Kennedy and Aldous Huxley (who wrote Brave New World) who all died on the same day--November 22, 1963--about the ultimate meaning of life and what to make of Jesus. it's a very quick read (110 pages, all dialogue) and really meaty. i like it a lot. i wonder if one of the reasons i like it so much is that the C. S. Lewis character is very clear about what the point of talking about Jesus is and how to go about it. it's very, very logical and I think that might turn some people off. but it just seems like there is a time to really get down into it with someone (who can't run away) and say, "so, what do you think about this Jesus guy?" it's sad to me that it seems more and more difficult to get people to talk honestly about spiritual issues without shutting their minds down. okay, now i'm just babbling :^)
