"If the purpose of the Gospel is to reconcile us to God and to our fellowman,if our mission is to be God's ambassadors of reconciliation, how do we fulfill that mission? It's tempting for us to start with a list of things to do. But that's not how the work of reconciliation begins. Before we can do the work of God, we must be the people of God... Our invitation to others then becomes, "Come join our fellowship". We must begin by being. Being though, is not complete until it results in doing. As James says, "Faith, if it has no works, is dead." ... Some communities reach out into their neighborhoods with social action programs, and that is great. That's part of the gospel; but it's not the whole gospel. The whole gospel speaks to both man's social needs and his spiritiual needs. If some communities make the mistake of trying to be without doing, other groups make the mistake of putting the doing ahead of the being... It's not easy to learn to strike the balance between being and doing." ~ John Perkins, With Justice For All, p 139
